Since Stranger Things season 4 ended with the Upside Down seemingly starting to creep its way into Hawkins, it’s no surprise season 5 will focus on how to stop both realities from merging. With Vecna having vanished in the finale, he is likely still pulling the strings, intent on crumbling the barrier between both locations. This indicates all the major characters introduced so far will play key roles in stopping him for good.

Since Castle Byers is making a return, it’s likely Will gets a larger role in the final season, tapping into his original disappearance. Given the importance the location held for him, both in and outside the Upside Down, it could be a key part of the group’s war against Vecna. Perhaps there is something special about the fort yet to be explored, possibly unveiling how Will’s connection to the dimension can defeat the show’s antagonist.

It’s also unclear who the figures in the red-lit forest are, and what they could be doing wandering around the woods. Perhaps there is something within Hawkins that can assist the party in defeating Vecna that hasn’t been revealed yet. With these new set photos teasing more about what’s to come, the mystery of what Stranger Things season 5 will entail seems like it will endure as production continues.

Stranger Things
season 5 is expected to arrive on Netflix in 2025.
